Allegedly a swan has died from a broken heart, after teenage vandals have killed her unborn cygnets.
This last month, in Bolton, Greater Manchester, a couple of teenagers were throwing bricks and rocks at a swan mother’s eggs. This week it was discovered that the father has disappeared, and the mother was found dead.
As told by some of the onlookers, these teenagers were aiming right at the swan’s nest, unfortunately 3 out of the 6 eggs were smashed. And to add more to this swan’s misery, previously she was vandalized by ducks, hens and dogs.
The male was driven away from the nest a couple of weeks ago, struggling with pain and stress. Therefore, as we all know swans are mates for life, and that means they can literally die from a broken heart if they loose their other half.
Experts are saying that when a swan loses their other half, they are going through the same pain and grieving as we humans do.
A representative from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) reported:
This is a very sad development, and it is very upsetting to hear about this swan’s death.
We are now investigating this very distressing incident, and we would urge anybody with information to contact us on 0300 123 8018. The swans, their nests and eggs are under the protection of the Wildlife Countryside Act 1981.
Also one week before this incident, a swan was also killed together with her 3 babies, by another group of teenagers who were using catapults to harm them.
Since these incidents were shared thousands of times by many different Facebook users, millions of people were mad and commented on the videos, some were even left with a broken heart.
